There are those that are keeping history alive, showing the rest of us exactly where we have come from, especially these Chicagoans and purveyors of Americana…The Modern Sounds (led by guitarist, Joel Paterson, stand-up bassists, Beau Sample, and drummer, Alex Hall).
Close your eyes and you might think you were listening to Chet Atkins and his accompaniment, as Paterson plays with the tone of his late idol with an eery resemblance. You will listen with amazement as these three present a living history of the classic “modern sounds” with a precision talent on their respective instruments, and furthermore, come together as a trio on nearly all the tracks with smooth, harmonic vocals.
The extent of their repertoire is baffling and as well, a contributor to their success in live showings; there is something new and fresh at every turn of their progression changes and set lists, so your sure to hear a broad selection of tunes to keep you anticipating and wanting more. They are great to listen to in the comfort of your home, but the high energy, up-beat character of their shows give them a style and sophistication worth visiting in the Chicago live venues they frequently perform in.
